Biodiversity in Action at West Camp

Following the successful completion of the West Camp Demolition works on the Isle of Benbecula, we’ve taken a meaningful step toward ecological restoration. The land – once occupied by redundant buildings – has been repurposed and seeded with corn as part of our biodiversity enhancement strategy. Importantly, the restoration was carried out using locally recycled soil, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable resource use and circular practices.

This week marked a milestone: the first cut of the newly established crop. The transformation from demolition site to productive green space reflects our commitment to sustainable land use and environmental stewardship. Even more meaningfully, the resulting grass is now being used by local crofters, supporting traditional land use and strengthening community ties.

Thanks to everyone involved – from planning and site preparation to seeding and maintenance – for helping bring this vision to life.
